Meal Preparation

While your loved one might have once thoroughly enjoyed cooking, the task may be becoming cumbersome, overwhelming or even slightly worrisome for you. Remove the stress and bring back the enjoyment of meal-time.

Our senior meal preparation service includes making well-balanced and nutritious meals for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.

The daily recommendations for seniors, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, are:

  • 1-1/2 to 2 servings of fresh fruit
  • 2 to 2-1/2 cups of fresh vegetables (e.g. anti-oxidant rich dark leafy greens: kale and spinach; oranges and yellows: carrots and squash)
  • 1,200 mg. calcium (e.g., low-fat milk, yogurt, or cheese
  • non-dairy sources include tofu, broccoli, and almonds);
  • 6 to 7 ounces of grains (choose whole grains over processed white flour for more nutrients and a higher fiber count)
  • approximately 65 grams of protein

Our meal preparation service can be adapted to fit special diets, diet restrictions, caloric intake, low sodium, diabetic friendly, or other dietary needs. We can also make sure to include medication reminders during meal time so that meal routine is consistent.

Enjoyable mealtime is a pleasure no one should be denied, and often our elderly aren’t able to cook well-balanced meals for themselves. After a senior loses a spouse or significant other, sometimes the willingness to cook for themselves loses any appeal as they have either cooked for or served food for someone else.

If you’re concerned you or the senior in your life isn’t getting enough nutrition, there may be a number of reasons, including the simple facts that grocery shopping might not be as easy to do, cooking may be more difficult, or meals just aren’t as fun to eat alone. In Home Personal Services have caretakers who are up to the task to ensure your loved one is eating healthy and happy.
